Is it possible to preserve the /tmp dir outside the chroot when creating e.g. a tar or ext2?
It is not right now. What would be your use case to have this directory remain?
I wanted to be able to inspect the results without having to untar. But it's pretty minor, and I can simply untar.
What kind of inspection is it that you want to perform?
This was really just for convenience. I can just have it generate straight into a directory. Closing.
